Some time ago Porsche officially unveiled the 911 Sally Special which pays homage to the character from the animated film Cars from Pixar studios. When the film was released in 2006 Sally was a type 996 911 Carrera. Porsche then made a modern reinterpretation of Sally based on a type 992 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS.

Single model

This 911 Sally Special is much more than just a specific paint job. Many winks are made to the film for this unique 911. Thus we find an exclusive « Sally Blue Metallic » paint, unique rims inspired by the « Turbo Twist » of the 996 that Sally wears in the film. The front lights are modified to look like those of a Porsche 911 type 996 phase 2, Porsche has therefore changed the black background of the GTS headlights to a chrome background. There are ‘Sally Special’ emblems on the rear windows and of course Sally’s tattoo which is hidden under the rear spoiler, only visible when it unfolds.

The changes don’t just stop on the outside. Porsche has taken the liberty of modifying the interior as it sees fit because it is not visible in the film. We then find a Chalk leather with black, white and blue patterns. The Cars film emblem is present on the upholstery and on the dashboard, while the driving mode selection button on the steering wheel becomes the « KACHOW! » Mode” in reference to Lightning McQueen’s lightning bolt. Finally on each door sill is written « Sally Special 001/001 » which means that the buyer has a unique model.

A price that exceeds reason

As so often when something appeals to good memories the reason is put aside. That’s certainly the case with the sale of this 911 Sally Special that took place at RM Sotheby’s Monterey Cars Week auction. Its selling price? $3.6 million (currently €3,600,450) for what remains of a Porsche 911 Carrera GTS worth around €150,000 new.

The profits from the sale of this Porsche 911 Sally Special will go to two associations, Girls Inc which helps women in difficulty in the United States and Canada and the USA for UNHCR association which helps Ukrainian refugees.
