a plug-in hybrid V8 under the hood?
Two years after the restyling of the current generation, the new BMW M5 is about to enter the scene. A prototype was indeed surprised during the testing phase by our spy photographers. These first images show the future BMW M5 hidden under heavy camouflage, and allow us to confirm the statements of Markus Flasch, boss of BMW M, who had announced that the next M5 would be equipped with a hybrid engine.
It is difficult to guess the future lines of this M5 under the camouflage that BMW has installed on its body. Up front, there is obviously the double bean grille, as well as what appear to be large air intakes at the shield. The hybrid powertrain is confirmed by stickers and a reloading hatch, located on the left front fender. At the rear, two double tailpipes spit smoke.
As powerful as the BMW XM?

According to our British colleagues from Car Magazine, this new BMW M5 should arrive on the market in 2024, one year after the new BMW 5 Series (G60). The sporty sedan could carry a plug-in hybrid engine similar to that of the XM SUV. This would include a thermal V8 associated with two electric motors. The total power could be increased to 760 hp for 1,000 Nm of torque.
A nice high-tech endowment envisaged

Finally, according to our spy photographers, this new generation of the BMW M5 could integrate the BMW Curved Display, this large curved touch screen that includes the digital instrument cluster and the central console screen. The M5 could also benefit from the eighth generation of the BMW iDrive system, the digital key BMW Digital Key Plus, or a level 2 autonomous driving system allowing to drive on the highway without holding the wheel. In a 760 hp M5, we would tend to grip it well, however.
to summarize
The future BMW M5 is already showing off! Only two years after the restyling of the current generation, the next M5 is already in the testing phase. Our spy photographers surprised her, even though its release seems scheduled for 2024. According to British colleagues, this new BMW M5 could carry a plug-in hybrid engine comprising a V8 and two electric motors. The power envisaged? 760 hp, for 1,000 Nm. It promises.
