A Laker steps up for Russell Westbrook!
After his disastrous first season at the Lakers, Russell Westbrook was a pariah in the City of Angels. That being said, a rookie is very happy to be able to play alongside him in 2022-23… It must be said that the two men know each other well.
If the fans and even the leaders of the Lakers today are not very fond of Russell Westbrook Lately, the situation has been a little different in the locker room. Indeed, the point guard has been considered a good teammate wherever he has been and is therefore quite popular with players. Proof that even miracles are possible, the 2017 MVP would even have patched things up with Patrick Beverley, after years of tension between them.
On the other hand, if there is one among the Crimson and Gold with whom he does not need to repair anything in terms of a relationship, it is Dennis Schröder. The two men rubbed shoulders in Oklahoma City during Brodie’s last months at the Thunder, and quickly developed a great connection on and off the field. Now reunited with the superstar again, the German did not hide from the media that he was absolutely delighted to do it again:

Russ is my guy. He helped me so much when I was there, and even afterwards. He is like a big brother to me, someone who helps me, who stays in touch with me all the time. Playing with him again is going to be great. It was fun times, there were positive vibes with him every time and I look forward to working with him and everyone else.
As a reminder, Dennis the Menace knew RW in his best hours since he was notably his teammate in 2018-19. The regular season had been very impressive, the No. 0 leaving the role of main scorer to Paul George to align a third consecutive campaign in triple-double average (23 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists average). Schröder himself had been very good as his back-up, basing more than 15 units a night.
In other words, the two men know how to play together and do it with quality, and their reflexes could therefore return at a gallop if the conditions are right. Except that there is also Patrick Beverley to include in the equation, and it will therefore be necessary to find the right formula for Darvin Ham and his staff. The three men bring different qualities, so it would be a waste not to exploit them.
Two and a half years later, Dennis Schröder is reunited with Russell Westbrook again and that suits him perfectly. Let’s hope they have the same success together as at OKC, where they had formed a very effective doublet.
