A historic season for France?

The good performance of the French clubs on the European front could be worth a record for French football.

Three victories, a draw and two defeats: the record of the representatives of Ligue 1 in the European Cups is hardly brilliant week. Consequence in particular of the two losses conceded by PSG on the lawn of Manchester City and Olympique de Marseille in Galatasaray. The week was nonetheless auspicious with the qualification of PSG for the knockout stages of the Champions League, that of AS Monaco for those of the Europa League and finally that of Stade Rennais in the Europa League.

Three qualifications in addition to that of Olympique Lyonnais acquired after only four days. First of its Champions League group, Losc can hope to join PSG and is already guaranteed to be transferred, at worst, to the Europa League. It is ultimately only Olympique Marseille that disappoints, Ciel and Blans being eliminated from the Europa League and now having to secure a draw against Lokomotiv Moscow to continue the adventure in the Conference League.

A first since 2017

These good results are also worth France to hit the UEFA index. After five days, the French representatives have indeed already amassed 11, 916 points. Enough to allow them to widen the gap against Portugal and their other pursuers and therefore consolidate their precious fifth place behind England, Spain, Germany and Italy.

France has also left for a historic season. These 11.916 points are already the fifth best total in the history of French clubs. During the last ten years, France has only done better once, during the 2016-17 season, marked by the semi-finals of AS Monaco in C1 and Olympique Lyonnais in C3. She had then garnered 14.416 points.
