If the biopic on Alain Prost is slow to see the light of day in the cinema, the filming of the docuseries has indeed been launched by Canal +. The channel made the announcement on Tuesday during a press conference on its collection of sports documentaries coming this year. « This is one of the important news of the day, we have an ambitious project in preparation with one of the greatest French sportsmen in history », said Thomas Sénécal, the sports director of the encrypted channel. The project in question? A docu-series of four 45-minute episodes on the quadruple Formula 1 world champion, consultant for several years for Canal + since obtaining the rights in 2013 … even if he is no longer today.
Christine Cauquelin, director of documentaries at Canal+, then gave more details on the content of this documentary film which will be released at the end of this year: “A national hero deserves a series. While it was extremely coveted by all platforms, Alain Prost decided to make this film with us. This will be an opportunity for him to tell his beginnings but also his story with his brother (addicted to speed and died in 1986 of cancer), the Roaring Twenties, the titles and above all the Prost-Senna duel told by Alain. » The « professor » has indeed badly experienced the story that had been made of his relationship with the Brazilian pilot in the documentary film « Senna », released in 2010.
Documentaries on Loeb, McEnroe and Mo Farah scheduled this year
Canal+ has also unveiled a large part of its documentary broadcasting program for the year, such as « the twilight of champions », a new film by Olivier Dacourt on the end of the career of top-level athletes (January 22), but also “Remontadas” and a documentary on the motherhood of footballers in February.
Several documentaries on motor sports are expected, in particular that on Sébastien Loeb (April) and others on the 1000th Grand Prix motorcycle in history (May), Jackie Stewart (from June) and « Stéphane de Groodt, de the runway… to the stars”. Also of note is the upcoming line-up of the latest documentary film on John McEnroe (May) and “The real Mo Farah” (from June) on the life course of the famous British athlete.
