68% of the championship are fully vaccinated
More than 81% of Premier League players have received at least one dose of the vaccine against the Covid and 68% are fully vaccinated, announced Tuesday the body which organizes the English championship, sometimes accused of inaction on this subject.
« The Premier League can confirm today that 81% of players have received at least one dose of an anti-Covid vaccine and that 68% are fully vaccinated, » she wrote in a statement.
« Vaccination rates are collected weekly by the Premier League and the League continues to work with clubs to encourage vaccination among the squad and staff, » she added.
Klopp pro vaccine campaigner
The press had said in recent days that only 7 elite teams out of 20 had a workforce more than 50% vaccinated.
The UK has been one of the countries hardest hit by the novel coronavirus, with more than 138,000 dead, but it is also one of the most vaccinated, with 79% of its population over 12 having received both injections, according to official data.
The rapid implementation of vaccination has allowed the government to significantly ease anti-Covid measures targeting large gatherings. The Premier League was thus able to start this season with full stadiums.
One of the most outspoken advocates of vaccination is Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp, who has compared those who refuse to be vaccinated to drunk drivers who put others at risk.
