32 in 32: Analysis of the Sharks for poolers

NOTE : These point projections (based on an 82-game season) are the result of a collaboration between Pete Jensen and Anna Dua. They take into account several factors, such as recent regular season and Stanley Cup playoff performances, potential line combinations, power play use, the situation of a team’s goaltenders, injury history , anticipated regression for a player or the possibility of him rebounding, age, contract and general potential for the season. The point projections presented here are approximate and do not necessarily reflect a player’s full potential in a hockey pool.

Timo MeierAG/AD – The San Jose Sharks winger was one of the highest paying players last season; he led his team with career highs in goals (35), points (76 in 77 games), shots on goal (326; third in the NHL) and hits (162). A two-time 30-goal scorer, Meier also had his best power-play performance with 18 points. He should be considered by the top 10 options among right wingers this season.

Projection: 73 points

Erik KarlssonD- He had 35 points in 50 games (a 57-point pace over an 82-game season) last season and could benefit from trading Brent Burns to the Carolina Hurricanes. Karlsson, who scored 10 goals last season (his highest tally since 2016-17), will have huge potential for poolers if he stays healthy. It will be used extensively on the first wave of the power play.

Projection: 50 points

Tomas HertlVS – He set career-highs in shots on goal (205) and power-play points (16) last season and hit 30 goals for the second time in his career (35 in 2018-19). Hertl played in all 82 games for the Sharks and averaged 19:56 per game (27th among NHL forwards), often beset by injuries in his career. He could be a prime target in the late rounds of your draft.

Projection: 63 points

Logan CoutureVS – He rebounded last season by finishing third on the Sharks in goals (23), points (56 in 77 games) and power-play points (17). Couture produces on a consistent basis over the years (eight seasons of at least 52 points; 70 in 2018-19) and he could make rookies attractive William Eklund and Thomas Bordeleau. One of these two young players could play with Couture this season.

Projection: 58 points

Other Sharks players to consider in the pools: James Reimer, G; William Eklund, AG; mario ferraro, D; Thomas Bordeleau, C; Alexander BarabanovAG/AD
