24% of French people gave up due to inflation

A majority of French men and women (53%) have resolved to do more sport and physical activity during the new school year that is about to begin. For this, they count almost as much on playing sports at home, with an online coach or video tutorials (27%) as in a club or association (25%). 15% will join a gym.

At the same time, 63% of parents plan to enroll their child in a club. They also overwhelmingly approve of the daily 30 minutes of sports at school (81%). But this return to school will not be sporty for everyone : 24% of respondents say they gave up because of inflation (24%) or unsuitable sports facilities (26%), a difficulty of inclusion which particularly concerns people with disabilities (42%).

Here are the lessons from the latest survey conducted by Odoxa for Winamax and RTL. The survey was carried out using the quota method on the internet on Tuesday August 30 and Wednesday August 31, 2022 with a sample of 1,004 people. representative of the French population aged 18 and over.

Practice of sport: the French affected by inflation

The economic news will therefore obviously have an effect on sports registrations during this back-to-school season. Nearly one in four French people (24%) claim to have given up, for themselves or their child, practicing a sporting activity that interested them because of inflation. Low incomes are logically the most likely to be in this situation (32%).

Others have given up an activity that interests them because it is not adapted to their personal situation (equipment, conditions of practice). This concerns 26% of French people but above all 42% of those declaring themselves to be disabled or having a child in this situation.
