The most important fact concerns the violent exit from the track of the Porsche 16 driven by Matt Payne which forced the stop of the event for almost an hour. The car, which had rolled over in a gravel trap, ended its mad dash in rails that had to be replaced. The driver of this Porsche, unharmed, was nevertheless taken to the medical center of the circuit.
We also noted the retirement of the Porsche 54 which, at the start of the event, had occupied 1st place. It seems that after contact following a puncture, the car exhibited erratic handling.
On the side of Audi, we are hardly at the party. It is the RS 8 LMS 99 of Attempto Racing which saves the honor of the mark on the rings with the 14th position for the moment while occupying the lead in the Silver Cup.
The WRT team will not win this edition. As the 32 driven by Charles Weerts rolled along with the 46 in the hands of Nico Müller, the two cars clung to the Source. In fact, Weerts was surprised by an idling McLaren and jumped on the brakes. Müller could not avoid it. Abandonment for Weerts and passage through the pits for repairs for the famous 46, notably driven by Valentino Rossi.
Another important fact: while the Ferrari 71 was battling for first place, Davide Ricon was penalized with a Drive Through for not respecting the speed limit during a Full Course Yellow which plunged the beautiful Italian into 9th place.
At 8:00 am, the Porsche 47, which started from the back of the grid following its problems in qualifying, led the dance with Laurens Vanthoor at the wheel. A remarkable performance to which we must obviously associate Dennis Olsen and Nick Tandy but behind, it honks a lot. At this stage, six brands can claim victory in this very eventful edition of the 24 Hours of Spa.
