24 Hours of Daytona – MGU problem on BMW n°25

BMW motorsport director Andreas Roos told us he was touching wood on Saturday morning, as major problems had spared his cars at Daytona so far. It was finally during the race that the first major problem appeared with the immobilization of the n°25 after only an hour of racing.

» Some early technical issues for the #25 BMW M Hybrid V8. The car with Nick Yelloly at the wheel is now back in the garage for checks and repairs. We are doing everything we can to get her back as soon as possible. “, indicates the firm with the propeller on Twitter.

Unsurprisingly, the technical problems are linked to the hybridization and the MGU on the prototype, disassembled in its box. If the race is probably lost with already 25 laps behind, it is expected that the BMW M Hybrid V8 will return to the track as soon as possible to continue its development. The German LMDh is indeed the youngest of the peloton and has not yet carried out a 24-hour test. It will therefore be important for the team to get back to racing as soon as possible, also to allow the drivers to gain experience.

At BMW, we also cherish the sweet hope of seeing others encounter misadventures.  » Others may also have problems “Blowed Yelloly as he got out of the car. The No. 7 Porsche thus slowed down shortly after the first hour of racing, but picked up its pace in eighth position. Trouble never comes alone, BMW n°24 is penalized with a drive through for having had too many people working on the car during a stop.

In the other categories, the Ferrari 296 GT3 n°47 of Cetilar Racing returned to its garage to repair a damaged flat bottom. The Italian team plans to return to the track when the repairs are complete.
