Kylian Mbappé has made up his mind on his future as far as possible, which has led the 23-year-old to extend with Paris Saint-Germain and snub Real Madrid.
Ahead of matchday one of the UEFA Champions League, the French international spoke with the New York Times Tariq Panja; the PSG star detailed the conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron.
Macron didn’t go as far as Brazil to keep Pele in the South American country when Europe’s top clubs surrounded the Brazilian, but the politician made clear Mbappé’s vital role in the country.
« I never imagined that I was going to speak with the president about my future, my future in my career, so it’s something crazy, really something crazy, » said Mbappé.
« He said to me, ‘I want you to stay. I don’t want you to leave now. You are so important to the country.
Besides, Macron added that Mbappé still has enough time in his career to possibly join Real Madrid in the future if he wants to.
“’You have time to leave; you can stay a little longer,” Macron said, according to Mbappé. “Of course, when the president tells you that, it matters. »
Whether Macron’s words had any effect or not, Mbappé said no to Real Madrid as many believed the striker was heading to the Spanish capital after PSG crashed out in the Champions League for Whites.
With a new contract, Mbappé is set to deliver PSG and Paris’ first Champions League trophy, cementing his legacy in his hometown as no one has accomplished the feat.
