ᑕ❶ᑐ 2022 World Cup: are the Blues starting favorites?

Football fans will have waited patiently for the start of the 2022 World Cup. This patience is being tested a little more than usual since they have to wait for winter for this edition. Let’s go back to the French team and the English selection, two teams that have every chance of winning in Qatar.

An expected French team

Since the consecutive victories of the brazilian selection in 1958 and 1962, France could be the first team to win the World Cup again twice in a row. In 2018, she finished first in Group C (with seven points) ahead of DenmarkPeru and finally Australia.

She then beat Argentina 4-3 after a match of anthology which had propelled Mbappe at the top of world football. The Blues had continued this momentum by beating successively Uruguay 2-0 and Belgium 1-0, before their victory in the final 4-2 against Croatia.

France thus naturally occupies the position of leader of the 2022 edition. We remember nevertheless that it had defeated Australia in pain during its first group match during the 2018 edition. the Australian Behich in the 81st minute then saved her.

Similarly, against Denmark, the Blues had conceded a draw (0-0), described as winded by the commentators. However, that didn’t stop them from taking the lead in their pool.

In 2022, the potential of the Blues is still immense, with players like MBappé, Giroud or Griezmann who continue individual and collective exploits. The victory of the French against Austria last September, with the sumptuous goal of Mbappé, attests to the good health of the selection.

Professional players evoke this potential of the France team. For defender Bacary Sagna, victory for France depends much more on the overall concentration of the team than on the quality of its players. According to him also, the English selection, inexperienced at the international level and victim of too much pressure from the British press, does not represent a real danger for the Blues. The soccer betting on these two teams are already open. As of October 19, France notably has odds of 3.75, ahead of England at 4.

Even though the FFF and the fans hope to see the French team triumph again, it has not always shone. Like its failure in 2002, it has already experienced disastrous World Cup campaigns, despite an exceptional team. Let’s just hope it doesn’t happen again in Qatar.

A rise of the Three Lions

In 2018, the England team were in fantastic form as evidenced by their run to the semi-finals. Her impressive run was cut short when she conceded a goal in extra time to give Croatia the win. Many English supporters finally saw in their national team, led by Gareth Southgatethe hope of once again bringing home the cup, a fact that had never happened again since 1966. History decided otherwise.

However, thanks to their great performance at Euro 2020 which saw them lose in the final on penalties against Italy, the English are now very confident about their chances of finally winning another world cup.

Group B, which includes England, also includes the United States, Wales and Iran. Thus, the team of Three Lions can consider the start of the competition in a more serene way. She shouldn’t have any problems with Iran. On the other hand, Wales and the United States could present more difficult obstacles.

The English and the Americans have faced each other only twice in a football World Cup: the first match ended in a draw in 2010 and the second in a miraculous triumph for the Americans which dates back to 1950.

A total of 32 teams will meet in Qatar next November to try to lift the biggest trophy in football. Among them, and as their previous careers suggest, France and England are among the favorite teams of this World Cup. The list of players for the France team will be unveiled on November 9.
